Solar for Schools India Collaboration Loyola college (02.05.2022)



Solar for Schools India is pleased to announce its collaboration with Loyola college to achieve the second milestone of the college’s decarbonisation efforts. Father Francis Xavier, rector of Loyola College inaugurated the solar rooftop project on 19th March. The total solar capacity fully funded and installed by Solar for Schools is 441 kWp (1,292 panels on 6 of its buildings).

The first phase of the project has been operational from June 2019 to date and has avoided 542 tonnes (equivalent to planting 598 trees), saving the college Rs. 1,046,531 just from opting solar as an alternate electricity solution.
With the second phase now operational, the complete 441 kWp plant installed is set to:
Avoid 10,500 tonnes of CO2 from ever entering the atmosphere
Save the college 26 million rupees (2.6 crores) over the lifetime of the plant.

Rector Fr. Francis SJ, who is the head of Loyola College Chennai inaugurated the plant and he blessed the solar plant with holy water.
Loyola college is under Jesuit Societ run the Jesuits in Rome.
As previously done in 2019, the rector visited the new solar plant to bless and officially inaugurate it.
